James K. Loftus

Chief Loftus began his law enforcement career with, what would become, the Miami-Dade Police Department in 1983 as a Police Officer.  Over the course of the next 29 years, he held every sworn rank in the department, from Sergeant to Director.  During that time, he served in numerous operational and investigative commands.  Chief Loftus retired from the Miami-Dade Police Department in October 2012, with the goal of relocating his family back to his native Pittsburgh.  In July of 2013, Chief Loftus accepted a position with the University of Pittsburgh Police Department as the Deputy Chief.   Subsequently, he was promoted to Chief in January of 2014.

Chief Loftus is a graduate of Barry University in Miami, Florida.
